Jorge Martinez started dancing in Buenos Aires, Argentina at 21 years of age after studying acting and performing in musical theater and television. He began his intensive study of dance
In 1997 he won a scholarship to study technique and repertory with Wally Cardona. Through Wally’s work, Jorge was introduced to Klein Technique™, which he worked with on his own trying to integrate it with the techniques in which he was familiar. During this same period of time he also began an intensive study and practice of Contact Improvisation and began working as a choreographer, making his own work. His last piece, Esquina, was produced with a grant from the Department of Culture in Buenos Aires.
In 2002, Jorge won an Antorchas's Scholarship from Argentina to study Klein Technique™ with Susan Klein. While in New York he studied every day consistently at the Susan Klein School of Movement and Dance. He augmented his studies of Klein Technique™ by studying for one year at the Trisha Brown Studio. Jorge Martinez is a member of the Teacher Certification Program and is now a Senior Member of the Teacher Certification Program in Klein Technique™.
In Buenos Aires, Argentina, Jorge taught Klein Technique™ at Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas (UBA) and IUNA Instituto Universitario Nacional de Arte.
In 2013 Jorge was subsidized by the Fondo Metropolitano de la Cultura, las Artes y las Ciencias to travel to New York to study with Susan Klein.
